SUCCESS STORY:  (full story)

Massachusetts Agent Jump Starts Her Business —The Easy Way ...

RE/MAX Agent Anita Harmon was faced with going from team member to solo as an agent. This meant putting together a business in a hurry and be able to hit the ground running. With the help of her VAs, she's pulling it off with flair. Here's how she did it...

Dear Michael,

As a relatively new agent transitioning from a team to flying solo, I was recently faced with the daunting task of creating a personal marketing plan from scratch - including putting together a website, logo, and business cards in a few short months. After taking your 10-week telecoaching program at the end of 2006, I had the information I needed to create the building blocks of my business. But there was so much to accomplish I felt like I had hit a brick wall.

Overcoming that wall became possible when Vickie stepped in as a VA to help me pull it all together. I had no personal assistants, so it was essential to have someone supporting me who had expertise in the real estate field, and knew where to find resources and other VAs to provide key support.

I put a project proposal on Elance.com and Guru.com to have a logo developed. Vickie assisted me in reviewing and narrowing down over thirty bids; this would have been overwhelming on my own. Unfortunately, we lost a month when the person selected for the job didn’t produce anything (and I learned how to release someone from a contract!). Another VA, Catherine, had joined my team to design the website. Luckily, when the logo designer didn’t follow through, she stepped in and worked with me to create a great logo for my business card and website.

Establishing a target market was stressed so heavily during the class - it “forced” me to establish my first time home buyers and sellers target market before the website was ever started. As I worked with Catherine, we kept in mind that Boston is a highly-educated market, and the right marketing approach including specific language and graphics have to appeal to that clientele. The other major lesson I learned about creating a website and other marketing materials is that it’s NOT ABOUT ME. I am constantly reminding myself to view everything through the eyes of the consumer.

This was the best course I’ve ever taken – not only did I gain extensive knowledge, but I learned how to implement it in my business. The course put a buffet of information before me, and I was able to pick and choose what I needed based on where I am in my business. You introduced me to cutting edge tools and how to use them, and with so many new resources available, it was invaluable through your expertise to learn what works and what doesn’t.

As someone starting to fly solo, it’s been exciting to create a team of VAs – assembled with your help - so I’m no longer traveling alone. I am so excited about the launch of my new website this month, thanks to you!
